Sunday Jam @ Salsa Café

Chris Finch (pno); Dave Parker (bs); Peter Ninnins (dms); Stuart Mckie (gtr); John Rowland (ten) + some lady songsters.
(Review by Lance)
The Salsa Café has a good atmosphere and the jam session seems to be picking up. I'm informed the owner likes the session and has asked for it to continue over Xmas and in to the new year and beyond.
Sessions will run from 3pm-6pm and blowers are invited to come along and blow. The singers have already taken root but, hopefully, the horn men will regroup and infiltrate the ranks of the "Now I'm going to sing Summertime" Brigade.
In fairness, none of today's nightingales sang Summertime.
Gabby was first up (I arrived late) and sang Skylark and Gee Baby Ain't I Good To You. Skylark soared but Gee Baby didn't quite hit the groove the singer was looking for.
BSH correspondent Kath Jobes sang Bye Bye Blackbird and Imagination - our girl did good.
Gabby returned with daughter and the pair duetted on My Favourite Things. What can I say? This is how most people learn to swim!
John Rowland blew an effective Stella by Starlight and was joined by a promising pianist whose name escapes me for Misty.
The second set opened with what may have been a Chris Finch original if it was I was/am impressed. Next up, yet another BSH correspondent took to the stage. Ann Alex gave us All of Me and A Foggy Day. the latter had some confusion intro-wise but, once the mist had cleared, the sun was shining everywhere. Well done AA.
Jen Errington's September in the Rain was a knock out and her I Only Have Eyes For You overcome another intro mishap to draw top applause.
I'd never heard Jenny sing before although I'd seen her around on the scene. Her chosen songs were Night and Day and Body and Soul. - two of the hardest songs in the gasbook. She handled them.
Singers apart, John Rowland blew some throaty tenor, Stuart McKie and Chris Finch kept the chordal base reinforced, Ninnin on drums booted it along and Dave Parker was, as ever, at the heart of things.
This afternoon jam is good but we need more horn players to come and have a blow.
More photos.
Lance.
