CD Review: Stu Brown's Twisted Toons Vol 2 - The Music of Scott Bradley and more

Stu Brown (dms, perc etc.); Daniel Peterson (vln); Tom MacNiven (tpt/ slide tpt/ lap steel gtr); Emma Roche (fl/picc); Brian Molley (ten/clt/fl); Martin Kershaw (clt/bs clt/alt); Paul Harrison (keys etc.); Mario Caribe (bs); Allan McKeown (gtr/uke).
(Review by Lance).
This one slipped under the radar - released in June - but, in truth, upon belatedly catching up, this didn't cause me to lose any sleep other than to lie awake pondering the question,'Why?'
Based on the wacky soundtracks behind those immortal cartoon characters such as Daffy Duck, Bugs Bunny, Road Runner, Tom and Jerry et al, Brown has scored them to suit his team. That he does it brilliantly is unquestionable, where it falls down is that we don't have the visual images to go along with the music. Together, they are omnipotent but isolated they ain't.
There are moments, Tom MacNiven's trumpet takes it forward in time, and the others show but, much as I love the idea and the execution, to sum up - Sufferin' succotash!
Lance.
