Bebop Spoken There

Carla Bley: “Have I ever been pelted? Oh yeah, I've been pelted. In France it was tomatoes, in Italy it was cans and apricot pits or half eaten peaches. That doesn't bother me. I had played the Italian national anthem and was just being irreverent.”(DownBeat August, 1984).

Bryan Ferry: “Even when I was at school, I used to work in the tailor’s shop on the high street to get my pocket money and I would spend it on records – usually at Windows of the Arcade in Newcastle – or going to the New Orleans Jazz Club.” – (The Journal Culture May 2015).

The Swing Thing

One of our regulars wonders if anyone recorded The Swing Thing on BBC4 a week ago. He is about to lose it on BBCi and would like to have it on DVD? Can anyone help/advise? Lance.

Bebop Spoken Here -- Here, being the north-east of England -- centred in the blues heartland of Newcastle and reaching down to the Tees Delta and looking upwards to the Land of the Kilt.
Not a very original title, I know; not even an accurate one as my taste, whilst centred around the music of Bird and Diz, extends in many directions and I listen to everything from King Oliver to Chick Corea and beyond. Not forgetting the Great American Songbook the contents of which has provided the inspiration for much great jazz and quality popular singing for round about a century.
The idea of this blog is for you to share your thoughts and pass on your comments on discs, gigs, jazz - music in general. If you've been to a gig/concert or heard a CD that knocked you sideways please share your views with us. Tell us about your favourites, your memories, your dislikes.
