BREAKING NEWS! LED BIB GIG CANCELLED

Because of poor advance ticket sales this Sunday's forthcoming gig by Led Bib due to take place at The Cluny has been cancelled. Lance. PS: You win some you lose some - click here.

  1. LED BIB or LEAD BALLOON?

It seems as though my support for gigs is rather like the Today Programme's racing tips - the kiss of death!

So, my enthusiasm for tomorrow night's Led Bib gig at the Cluny hasn't prevented its cancellation as a consequence of extremely poor advance ticket sales - this despite the fact that the band got some decent exposure from their recent Mercury Prize shortlisting. Hardened jazz promoters, faced with similar poor advance sales, have long since learned to hold their nerve and hope for a big walk up audience on the night, but the Cluny management lack that combination of deluded optimism and suicidal tendencies, and decided to pull the plug.

Still, the one (small) consolation is that local jazz fans will have saved a few quid, and therefore can better afford to come to the week's other outstanding gigs - World Sanguine Report at the Cluny on Tuesday, and the Profound Sound Trio at Gateshead Old Town Hall on Thursday.

Oh dear - I hope I haven't put the hex on them!

Bebop Spoken Here -- Here, being the north-east of England -- centred in the blues heartland of Newcastle and reaching down to the Tees Delta and looking upwards to the Land of the Kilt.
Not a very original title, I know; not even an accurate one as my taste, whilst centred around the music of Bird and Diz, extends in many directions and I listen to everything from King Oliver to Chick Corea and beyond. Not forgetting the Great American Songbook the contents of which has provided the inspiration for much great jazz and quality popular singing for round about a century.
The idea of this blog is for you to share your thoughts and pass on your comments on discs, gigs, jazz - music in general. If you've been to a gig/concert or heard a CD that knocked you sideways please share your views with us. Tell us about your favourites, your memories, your dislikes.
